My approach

I’m a professionally certified leadership coach (CPCC) through the Co-Active Training Institute. My coaching integrates a decade of experience as a product leader and manager of teams at Dropbox and Pinterest, where I helped both companies scale during periods of rapid growth.

We might be a good fit if you value the following in a coaching partnership:

  • A holistic approach. I care about your whole story and you as a whole person. This includes your role as a leader and founder but also other parts of your identity that are important to you. What’s going on in one part of our lives inevitably touches the others and growth in one area ripples outward. My philosophy also integrates different types of intelligence — not just our thinking, analytical minds but our emotional, somatic, and relational intelligence as well.

  • Compassionate candor. I hold up a kind yet honest mirror for you to reflect blind spots, offer fresh perspective, and highlight patterns of thought and behavior. You trust me to challenge you and always tell it straight, even if the truth is hard to confront. I believe you can hear it and learn from it to become a more effective and skilled leader.

  • A blend of insight and action. Insight is the foundational inner work to uncover what matters to you and any limiting beliefs that might be holding you back. Action is where we take those insights and put them into practice. We experiment and try things, always guided by your goals and values while staying open to the specific path to get there. Both pieces are necessary for the coaching to have real impact — insight without action doesn’t lead to change and action without insight is blind effort.

  • In-depth 360 feedback. There’s only so much we can know about ourselves from the inside looking out. At the same time, the higher you go in an organization, the harder it is to gather open and honest feedback. That’s why 360s are such a powerful tool for supercharging your growth as a leader. You’ll gain clarity on how others perceive your strengths and gaps, including information people may have been afraid to share. We’ll use these data points to inform your coaching goals and development plan.

  • Beyond tactics. Many clients are excited to work with me because they’re looking for someone who can step into an advisor and mentor role; they appreciate that I understand what it means to guide teams through the highs and lows of an early stage company, and that I have a track record of scaling products during hypergrowth and through an IPO. While I regularly discuss frameworks and tactics with my clients based on that lived experience, my approach extends beyond that. Beyond a certain point, the biggest obstacles to growing your impact won’t be hard skills or an esoteric framework you’ve never heard of. It’s internal and interpersonal. It requires going beyond what we do to examine how we think. I push my clients to explore their underlying fears, beliefs, and assumptions because updating them is the key to unlocking new possibilities and real growth.

Other influences I bring to my coaching:

  • My intersectional identities as a 1.5 generation immigrant and a woman of color

  • Therapy and the principles of nonviolent communication have been transformative tools in improving the quality of my life and my relationships.

  • Practices that strengthen the mind-body connection, especially vipassana meditation, which has taught me how to cultivate more equanimity amidst life’s inevitable ups and downs. My routine also includes generous doses of yoga, walking, and swimming, which is often when my best creative thinking happens.

How I can help

People I especially enjoy working with:

  • You’re a founder looking for a thought partner to grow your self-awareness, resilience, and impact as you scale your company. You’re excited about the idea of 360 feedback and designing a development plan based on what we learn. I also coach select co-founder teams on how to work better together.

  • You’re a head of product, engineering, or design looking for a mix of coaching and advising. Some of the ways I can help:

    • Defining team charters

    • Identifying hiring needs and setting up recruiting pipelines

    • Designing career pathways and developing managers

    • Planning and prioritization

    • Aligning cross-functional stakeholders

    • Have a topic that’s not on this list? Get in touch!

  • You’re the leader of a high-growth team who needs to scale yourself as quickly as possible. You recognize that what got you this far won’t be the same set of skills you’ll need to level up.

  • You’re a high-achieving, underrepresented leader who wrestles with imposter syndrome and a strong inner critic, despite your accomplishments. You’re ready to let go of overthinking and second-guessing. You want to feel a deeper conviction and to own your unique leadership style.

FAQs

What is coaching?

Coaching helps you bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to go. The process involves both insight through self-discovery and action through experimentation.

Read more about the differences between coaching and related fields like consulting, therapy, etc. Depending on your needs, you might look for a coach who can step into other roles like advisor and mentor.

Why invest in coaching?

There are many ways to grow as a leader. Maybe you’ve gotten to where you are now via a lot of hard work, learning on-the-job, and trial by fire.

Working with a coach accelerates your growth and helps you reach your full potential. There’s only so much we can learn on our own, from the inside looking out.

Coaches are sounding boards and thought partners. They keep us honest and help us see ourselves, others, and situations more clearly. They create a safe container where you can be vulnerable in a way that might be hard in your other relationships. It’s also a place where you can slow down, quiet the external noise, and reconnect with what matters to you.

Every person who’s at the top of their profession — whether an athlete, performer, writer, etc. — knows the importance of getting expert, personalized support. There’s a magic that happens when you partner with a trusted third party who has objective distance from your life and whose only interest is your success and well-being.

What does a coaching partnership look like?

A typical engagement starts at 3 (minimum) to 6 months (recommended) meeting bi-weekly. We set initial goals that are then informed by the results of 360 feedback. We’ll create a development plan based on what we learn and follow up with feedback respondents to see what’s shifted. Get in touch and we can chat about your specific needs.
